What is the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test?
The AKC CGC is a widely respected training program and test comprised of 10 real-life behavior tasks, designed to assess and reward dogs for good manners and composure in everyday situations.
Tasks Include:
Accepting a friendly stranger
Sitting politely for petting
Appearance and grooming
Walking on a loose leash
Walking through a crowd
Sit, down, and stay (with distance)
Coming when called
Reaction to another dog
Reaction to distractions
Supervised separation
🏆 Passing dogs earn a CGC certificate, and—if your dog has an AKC number, PAL, or Canine Partners number—you can apply to have CGC added to their official title record! Learn more here!

How to Get the CGC Title
After Passing:
Evaluator gives you part of the test form
Send one copy of the form plus the processing fee (certificate-only or title-option) to the AKC within 1 year. American Kennel Club
The title will appear on your dog’s AKC record and you’ll receive an official embossed certificate.
